Well, a couple weeks ago, Jon-Jon had to endure the 7th operation of his life. Jon had to have another cleft palate repair. It was so scary. SO scary. Everytime he goes through those operating room doors, I hold my breath and pray that he comes out ok. This time was so different. Normally, I can keep my composure and not freak out, but not this time. This time, I fell into my husband’s arms and just sobbed as they took him through those doors. I was terrified. Even though I knew my sweet Jon-Jon was in safe hands, I completely lost it and cried like I have never cried before.

Almost 3 hours later, he was out of surgery. He was not breathing well, though, and needed some assistnce with oxygen. He looked so swollen, so sick, so not like my baby boy. He was in the ICU and had a lot of wires attached to him. The next several days were horrible. Jon was in a lot of pain and cried so much. Jon also began experiencing spells of sleep apnea (a condition that makes you stop breathing in your sleep) and had to have 28% oxygen to help keep his heart rate and oxygen levels at healthy levels.

Then, the scariest thing ever happened. Jon vomited and asperated it back into his lungs. He instantly became limp, lifeless, not responsive and his little body was struggling so hard to breathe. We had 5 doctors working non-stop for almost 5 hours to make him better. His left lung was not putting out any air. Over those 5 hours, we made some progress though and he was fully better from the asperation a day later.

We have been home for almost two weeks now, and my sweet Jon has proved yet again that he is such a strong boy. He has made an amazing recovery and now the only problem we are still having is the sleep apnea. He may never get rid of that. We go in a few weeks for a sleep study to see how severe it is and learn how to treat it.

You know what I believe helped Jon-Jon the most? Prayer. We had SO MANY people praying for our child. People from all over the U.S. lifted him up in prayer and God touched my baby with his healing hands. God is AWESOME!

I want to thank everyone for your love, support, prayers and get well gifts you sent our way. I have never experienced so much love and support from my friends and even from people I barely even know. It was your constant flow of prayers that helped my baby boy become well again. We will never ever forget your love for our child.

To celebrate life, Jon-Jon’s life, miracles and happiness I took Jon out for a quick little photoshoot. I wanted to capture his spirit, his carefree attitude and his beauty to share with all of you.

I know many of you have been asking for an update on when Jon’s next cleft repair will be. We finally have a date set for the operation. It will be on Febuary 12, 2009. Wow, just a few more weeks. I am so not ready for this. We are all nervous about this operation. Our fisrt cleft repair was when he was 10 months old. He couldn’t talk yet and couldn’t fight back yet. Now he is four and is autistic. Jon will be in an enourmous ammount of pain after surgery. That is the part I am scared of. That is what I am dreading. No mother wants to see her baby in pain.

For now though, I am not going to stress over the things I can not change. I am going to celebrate my beautiful boy and this blessing that is my life!

Yes, you will notice that Jon has long hair. We love it! The first shot you will see that he has curly hair. The last shot you will see what his hair looks like when I brush it straight.

The following image was my absolute most favorite image of Caden from our first session together. How could anyone forget that amazing smile? That smile that could light up a room? That smile that shows the very soul of Caden? This image simply melts my heart!

Jon will be undergoing three surgeries beginning in November. Jon’s tonsils and adnoids are deformed because of the cleft and need to be removed for his health and safety. His tonsils are extremely enlarged and pose a risk of him not breathing well in his sleep. So the first two surgeries will happen next month. He will heal from that and get through the holidays and then he wil undergo the most serious surgery of his life….a second cleft palate repair operation. That surgery is scheduled to happen this January, just after his 4th birthday. This operation is a lot more difficult than the first cleft repair was. They have already told me to “prepare for hell”. Appearently this operation will cause a lot more pain then the first one did. 

Honestly, I am freaking out. I hate that he has to go through all of this pain. I have so many fears right now. God, I hope this will be the last operation he will have to endure! We are so lucky and blessed to have a very strong suppoprt system of friends and family to help us through this. I don’t know what I would ever do without them!

So, for now, I am enjoying my baby boy just being a boy! I am trying to not think too much about what is to come in the upcoming months. That’s why I took these pictures of him last week. In these shots, he is just being a happy little boy! No worries of Autism, or education or operations. Just my Jon-Jon being his fun loving, michevious little self! I also had to pay him $1.11 for this shoot! haha! I had a pocket full of change and slowly gave it to him to keep his interest with the camera!  This session with Jon lasted about 10 minutes. That’s all he would give me. I’ll take it!
