Rachel Wilson - OHHHHHHHHHHHHH Santa came by to see us on Christmas Eve. It was amazing. My hubby was standing in the kitchen and I said Santa is here and he kinda gave me the Whatever look that hubbies give. So santa was standing around in the living room talking to the kids (and grown-ups). he was telling us al about driving to Portland to get his pics made with the new baby and how sweet he was. Well at some point he laughed and my hubby comes bolting out of the kitchen and says
"HE IS SANTA! he has that great Santa laugh" so cute. Wes, got a transformer from him and was ecstatic and the girls got stuff they loved. He is such a precious person!

I have had several rounds of cancer in my immediate family, and for me to say that it is not hard to watch or deal with would be a lie. But I will say Always keep your head up, and be strong. hey it is rachel wilson again. I just realized who your dad is. OMGoodness, he is SANTA! I am not being smart but serious. I am married to Steven Wilson, son of the Fire Chief Billy Wilson. He and your dad are great friends. He does so much with the toys for tots charity my father in law runs. (he is also the one who lives in that Big old house you love on Stark St.) I called your dad the other day(well november) b/c I was hosting a pancake breakfast for 700 at Watauga Elem. and wanted the REAL santa. I caonsider him the real santa b/c ........ as you know i am the mother of a 7 year old son w/autism. He has NEVER had a pic of himself with santa and has never touched him. Last Christmas, he came to my inlaws fully suited and toys in tow and sat down and waited........ and eventually he came to him. I cried and cried. IT WAS AMAZING! i had no idea the two of you were connected. I told him that story when i called him and told him that is why i wanted only him. he then told me a little bit about your son. I even ask if I could meet you. If I had known you two were connected I surely would have used you for my photorapher! It was so funny b/c just today my mother in law says..." Santa said his daughter is a photographer and this guy should have known how to make his beard whiter in these pics!" We should definitely meet. My in-laws really want to get some pics done any way and I am sure this is fate.

He is such a beautiful boy, in all ways. Although he's not a baby, *congratulations* on having him as a son - you'll get lots of "I'm sorry"'s and "God had a plan"'s through this journey I'm sure. I prefer to just say congratulations. You have an amazing son and no matter what you discover he's still your same Jon-Jon! I wish I was closer so I could babysit him :)

when my first boy was a newborn, he had a heart murmur too and i remember feeling so helpless and scared, ugh.

these pictures are just fantastically beautiful and emotional, so full of LOVE!

Sally - Fragile X may have no cure but at this time research is evolving almost as fast as a speeding bullet (what our super heroes need.) There are three meds in the first phase of human clinical trials, meds that in mice reversed some of the symptoms and improved cognitive ability.

I have high hopes, in my life, there will be treatments for my son, which will improve his ability to live independently and be successful.

To learn more about Fragile X, I recommend the following sites:

When they do the testing, it's critical that they do the FMR1 DNA test. The Chromosome Analysis or Microarray Chromosome Analysis should not be used.

You'll know if they did the right test if they provide you with CGG Allele number - if they can't then they didn't use the tests outlined in the American College of Medical Genetics practice guidelines for diagnosing Fragile X.

Elle - Ive just read through your blog and gathered the little information about your wonderful family.The first thing that strikes me is the amount of love there is..the love you have for your family,the love they have for you and the love you have for life.
I think its fair to say that you have a gorgeous little boy there..he may be alittle different but where would the fun be in life if we were all the same!! Tiffany, thanks so much! You were the first person to go through my mind when they told me it was a heart murmor. God, I hope he doesn't need surgery. We'll know more on Tuesday. Jon is going to a pedaiatric Cardiologist at a place called Children's Heart (near Baptist Hospital). I'll keep you updated. Love you girl!

Tiffany Milam - You know my story Angie. At eleven years old my parents were told I had a heart murmur. Six months later I was having open heart surgery and a year and a half after that I was cleared to live a normal child hood again. I don't have children so I can't say that I know how your feeling, all I remember is that both my mom and dad cried a LOT when they found out. And they cried a lot when they saw me in recovery after the surgery with all those tubes hooked up to me. So I don't know if jon will have to have surgery or not but believe me when I say that even if surgery turns out to be the only option his life will be so much richer afterwards as he grows and lives with a healthy heart. You know that I love you Ange, and I'll do anything I can to help you when you need me. If you want to talk about it I might be able to give you a child's perspective on such a condition. You know how to contact me.

You and your family will be in my prayers.

PS-I had my surgery in 1996 at Vanderbilt Children's hospital. I don't remember the name of my surgeon (just that she was a lady) but my pediatric cardiologist was Dr. Moreau. He may not even be at Vandy anymore but he was really nice.

As many times as I heard him sing that song in my youth, I never thought he would actually "fly away" someday. Listen to it carefully, and see it from your grandma's point of view. She wasn't afraid to die. I like to think that when someone I love dies, there will be one more familiar face in heaven waiting for me! no more tears, now... thanks for a good cry!

What a beautiful testimony to your Grandma! Bless your heart! I lost my Dad when my two boys were too young to remember him. It gives me great comfort now, that my boys are a little older, to see features and qualities in them that remind me of my Dad. My youngest son's hands look just like his and my other son's freckles are just like his Grandpa's too. I hope that makes sense. Thanks for sharing about your sweet Grandma!

Lottie, thank you so very much. When I looked up and saw that beautiful sunset, I instantly knew that my Grandma was there with me. That sunset was God's way of telling me all would be ok. God's way of allowing me to feel closer to her.
